Sound Bites Music and Food Truck Festival to raise funds for CIAF

A convoy of food trucks will roll into Rochester on May 19 for the Sound Bites Music and Food Truck Festival. The fundraiser takes place at District 23 Mercantile & Foundry, located at 130 S. John Street, with food and beer from 5 pm to 9 pm and music by Six Rows Back.

Vendors signed on to date include Chaddito’s Mexican-American Grill, Walnut Street Winery, Ryan's Urban Bistro, Field of Sweets, Twyford BBQ, Cooper’s StrEATside Bistro, Happy Baked Goods, Razzo’s Pizza, Nuthatch BBQ Co., Free Press Coffee House and Skippers Island Oasis. District 23 Mercantile & Foundry will be open and the Itty Bitty Fashion Truck will be onsite too. There will also be a jump house for the children.

“We’ve sponsored and co-hosted food truck events at our boutique’s other location in Springfield and the response was incredible,” said Michelle Tjelmeland of District 23. “So in addition to all of our neighbors in Rochester, we’d like to invite our Springfield friends to make the short trip out here. We’re going to have a great time.”

Proceeds from the festival will support the Cochlear Implant Awareness Foundation (CIAF), a non-profit organization that provides the gift of hearing to those in need. Michelle founded CIAF after both she and her daughter received cochlear implants to restore their hearing. Last year, CIAF donated $473,000 worth of cochlear equipment to hearing-impaired individuals who lacked the resources to pay for it themselves.

Parking will be available at nearby businesses, churches, and the high school. Residents are encouraged to walk, or ride bikes, and everyone is welcome to bring a lawn chair. For updates visit facebook.com/DistrictTwentyThree
