Sensible Innovations wins METRO Magazine’s Innovative Solutions Award

Springfield company, Sensible Innovations, has won METRO Magazine’s 2017 Innovative Solutions Award for the implementation of AWARE at one of the busiest bus stations in New York.

The award will be shared between Sensible Innovations and Transdev, the company that operates Rosa Parks Hempstead Transit Center, Nassau Inter-county Express’ (NICE).

The AWARE app allows visually impaired users to step out with confidence, explore, and engage by navigating public spaces in real time via voice instruction.

In May, Sensible Innovations installed Bluetooth electronic sensors, or iBeacons, throughout the bus station, which allows users to navigate the bus bays, ticket machines, and restrooms independently if they download the app.

Rasha Said, Sensible Innovations CEO, said she was delighted about the award. “Since launching the AWARE app at Glenwood High School in Chatham, Illinois, we have placed iBeacons in five states in the US and in London, UK. NICE has provided Sensible Innovations the chance to show the positive impact of AWARE.”

METRO Magazine is a trade publication for bus and rail transit and motor coach operators, published monthly since 1904.

The award will be presented to Sensible Innovations and NICE during BusCon in Indianapolis on Wednesday, September 13.

The AWARE app is available for free download through the Apple App Store and Google Play.
