Picnicking downtown at the Old State Capitol Plaza in Springfield

For anyone working or meeting downtown on Thursdays in June, July, or August grab a treat from your favorite restaurant or prepare your own, and head to the Old State Capitol Plaza. From 11.45am to 1.15pm the site provides free bottles of water for anyone to enjoy with their lunch. There is also a stack of blankets on the building's south steps provided by Springfield Vintage for people to borrow. Alternatively, you can use the new benches and tables, which have been added as part of the Bicentennial Project to create a strolling garden and new seating option for the downtown square.
Each Tuesday and Thursday at noon The Artist on the Plaza series takes place between Memorial Day and Labor Day. The Springfield Area Youth Jazz Band will be performing as part of the series, which is organized by the Springfield Area Arts Council.
