The Springfield community will gather at Washington Park, 1501 South Grand West, on Sunday, May 21st for the annual March for Babies, sponsored by Citizens Equity First Credit Union (CEFCU). This is the largest annual March of Dimes fundraising event to benefit babies in obtaining a healthy start in life.
Onsite registration, activities for children, and a complimentary lunch begin at noon followed by the 2.5-mile at 1.15pm.
“We’re celebrating children and parents who experienced and persevered through the health challenges of premature birth,” said Shannon Mathis, March of Dimes executive director of market development. “This year for the first time, participants will have the opportunity to walk through the memory mile and visit our unforgettable March for Babies Memory Garden. Those who have experienced loss will find a meaningful way to remember their baby by planting a flower in our butterfly garden.”
Organizers hope to raise $110,000 for the March of Dimes mission to prevent birth defects, premature birth, and other causes of infant death and disability. Funds raised will help support programs, research, advocacy, and education to ensure healthier moms and babies here in Springfield.
Those who have been affected by prematurity or birth defects can visit the shareyourstory.org community for comfort and support.
