Confidence building through accomplishments made in health and fitness are just a few of the pillars the Girls on the Run program is based upon. The Girls on the Run program was created to assist young girls from 3rd to 8th grade learn valuable life skills by taking part in various lessons and games which utilize health and fitness in the hopes of fostering confidence and creating a greater appreciation for leading a healthy lifestyle.
The appropriately named Be Your Own Super Hero community 5k, taking place on Saturday, November 5th, is a chance for program participants to celebrate the 10 weeks of work they’ve completed having gone through the physical and emotional training needed to prepare for a 5k. The race, presented by Memorial Health System, is set to begin at 10am, during which time Lincoln Land Community College will be host to 350 Girls on the Run participants along with their coaches and volunteers. You too can run, hop, skip, or jump, your way to the finish line along with these dedicated young women by registering today.
Want to be a part of it all? You can register through November 4th ($30/adult, $20/youth). Registration will increase to $35/adult and $25/youth on the day of the race. Show up early as fun activities have been planned to begin at 8.30am and stick around afterward as post-race food will be available for purchase from vendors such as Just Right Eating.
Online registration is open through November 3rd at http://gotrcentralillinois.org/5k-event/ with paper registration available for pick up on Friday, November 4th from 4pm to 6pm at the Girls on the Run office located at 907 Clocktower Drive in Springfield. Race day registration will be from 8am to 9.30am.
