It’s that time of year when the day comes and goes without noticing or it’s a big deal. One of my favorite Valentine’s Days was spent with a bunch of girlfriends at college in Lincoln, the UK, eating pizza (I think it was pizza) and boycotting the occasion. I’ve had some great ones with my husband, of course, since then. So, in the spirit of February 14 and all things local I’ve put together my picks for this year’s Valentine’s Day when it comes to gifts and a night out with your loved one.
With the return of Peace’s at Bunn Gourmet’s Freak Shake Fridays this month there’s no denying that any of us would find it extremely difficult to pass up the chance to fill up on one of these mugs of deliciousness (calorie count unknown – so it is best not to think about it).

If you really want to make a lasting impact, and purchase a piece he, or she, will love forever, why not stop by Sangamon Reclaimed where there’s a selection of small, to (very) large items of home décor and furniture hand-crafted from reclaimed barn wood. The showroom and workshop are located at 1315 Ottis St, Springfield, IL 62703.
If you’re looking for something to do this weekend, why not walk the Fourth Annual Vintage Love Tour tomorrow from 10am to 4pm? It includes nine stores, three of which are Local First members; Abe's Old Hat Antiques & Country Store, Flea Market To Fabulous, and Springfield Vintage.
One of my most favorite things to do with my husband is take five minutes out of our day to grab a coffee and either chat about anything but work (although let’s not deny the inevitable when you’re both directors of the same company), people watch, and fill up on the delicious baked goods by Three Twigs Bakery at Custom Cup downtown. Treat your love to a Custom Cup coffee on-site or at home! Not only is this a favorite spot of ours, because of the fabulous Kendra and her team, but also the location in the heart of downtown Springfield, a hop, skip, and a jump from Adams Street which is home to the Itty Bitty Fashion Trunk gals.
Talking fashion, you might want to stop in t see the Gypsy family at one of their three locations; Gypsy Dreamer, Gypsy Soul, or for the little(s) Gypsy Tribe. You will not be able to walk away empty-handed, just ask Kate Spencer of Kate Spencer Photography – she has a Gypsy addiction!
Moving onto Kate, why not book a family session for spring, summer of our favorite season, fall? Kate is an award-winning photographer, patient, kind and affordable.
If you’re sports fans why not head out to the Nelson Center for the Springfield Junior Blues' Valentine’s Day game tomorrow evening. There are date food specials, a selfie booth and gift certificates for Cooper’s Alleyside and Café Moxo. Visit the Facebook event to find out more.
Have a lovely weekend everyone. Gemma
