On Thursday, September 7, Downtown Springfield Inc. (DSI) will host the second annual Friends of the Market Street Dinner benefitting the Old Capitol Farmers Market under the fall constellations at community tables placed on the Old State Capitol Plaza.
Local chefs from Long Nine Junction, Cooper’s Streatside Bistro, Five Flavors/Tacology and Copper Pot Cooking Studio, all skilled in farm-to-table cuisine, will pair with vendors from the market to prepare four courses, paired with The Wine Group wines. From the live music and centerpieces to the food on the plate, the event, sponsored by Bank of Springfield, will celebrate all things about the market.
“September is simply the best time to showcase the bounty of the Old Capitol Farmers Market with the diversity of crops including both summer and fall produce,” said Lisa Clemmons Stott, DSI executive director.
Proceeds offset the costs of managing and promoting the Old Capitol Farmers Market, which has been welcoming 2,500-4,000 people to downtown each Saturday this season. The market is managed by Illinois Stewardship Alliance on behalf of Downtown Springfield Inc., and the partnership has resulted in new programs such as family fitness, weekly chef demonstrations and live music programmed by Springfield Area Arts Council.
The dinner will begin at 6pm and 200 seats are available. Tickets are $75 and are available for purchase online at downtownspringfield.org or by calling 217-544-1723.
The Old Capitol Farmers Market, sponsored by HSHS St. John’s Hospital, provided by Downtown Springfield, Inc. in cooperation with Illinois Stewardship Alliance and Springfield Area Arts Council is held Wednesdays and Saturdays at 4th and Adams. The market runs between May and October.
