Downtown Springfield Inc. and its Image and Design Council have organized the first Downtown Art Alley Pop-up Exhibition in June. All 2D local artists are invited to help transform the alley between the Reisch Building and Old Town Mall Building on 5th Street.
The event will also include lights, music, and fire and will take place on Thursday, June 8 starting at 5pm.
“We're all about stealing great ideas, and art alley events have sprung up all over the country, usually in bigger cities with a strong art presence. Well, Springfield has a great artistic community and we knew it would be a fun and unique experience to repurpose a boring alley into a big city art venue for one night,” said Lisa Clemmons Stott, Downtown Springfield, Inc., Executive Director. “After many years on the drawing board, all of the stars aligned this year - with the help of a great volunteer committee, two enthusiastic building owners, and more and more people seeing the economic benefit of public art for the downtown neighborhood.”
Artwork will be curated by the major color in the artwork and there will be a limited number of slots open in each color section. Artists can secure a spot through http://www.signupgenius.com/go/10c0d4ca8ab2ba2fe3-dsiart
