Dare to be D!fferent: Taking a fashion stance against sexual assault

The second annual Dare to be D!fferent vintage fair and fashion show is stage ready thanks to Linda Renehan, Grayslake, IL native and owner of Springfield Vintage. Dare to be D!fferent is a unique fashion experience created by Linda alongside the Prairie Center Against Sexual Assault (PCASA) to raise funds for PCASA programs including anti-bullying and sexual assault. The idea behind Dare to be D!fferent is to create confidence and independence through acceptance by showing how being different can be empowering.

Linda feels so strongly about empowering individuals that she is inviting anyone of any shape or size to take part in the fashion show, which will feature vintage clothing and accessories that are classic, costume, quirky, and different. Interested models must sign up prior to the show.

Scheduled for Saturday, November 12th, from 9am to 4pm at the State House Inn, the event will showcase several shops including Springfield Vintage, Tossed and Found, Shimmy Shack Style, and The Cardologist from Springfield, RetroFit Culture from Bloomington, The Porcelain Pig from East Peoria, and Birdsong Books & Vintage from Elkhart. The NoName Bar will be offering signature cocktails throughout the day.  The fashion show will also have vendors from local antique malls with a variety of items on sale from clothing and jewelry to kitchenware and home decor.

Linda said vintage was trendy right now and that’s why she believes Dare to be D!fferent will be a success. “It’s everywhere you just may not know it. Midcentury furniture, boho clothing, upcycled décor, repurposed goods, Pyrex, vintage albums, rockabilly style.”

Presale tickets are available for $15 at Springfield Vintage and Lewis Memorial Christian Village. Tickets will be $20 at the door with both presale and door fashion show tickets including admission to the Vintage Fair. The fashion show will run from 2pm to 3pm. Standalone Vintage Fair admission is $3.

For ticket information please contact Lewis Memorial Christian Village, Kelley Tierney 217-787-9600 or PCASA 217-744-2560. If you would like to model at the fashion show call Linda on (217) 652-8413.
