On Saturday, October 15, 2016, sneakers will be hitting the pavement as the Springfield community gathers at Washington Park for the annual CELEBRATE SOUND® - Don’t Walk in Silence event. With teams and organizations, such as the Cochlear Implant Awareness Foundation (ciaf™), joining the ranks this walk is already gearing up to be a fun one.
CELEBRATE SOUND® is a national fund and awareness event that was started to support hearing health in local communities nationwide. This 2016 walk, hosted by the Sertoma Club of Springfield, IL, is to raise funds for two Springfield organizations – the Cochlear Implant Awareness Foundation (ciaf®) and Legacy Theatre.
The Cochlear Implant Awareness Foundation (ciaf®) is a local nonprofit organization that was founded in 2005 to share how implants can assist the hearing impaired and help those in need gain access to various devices.
Legacy Theatre is a renovated theater dedicated to bringing together local talent in an effort to enrich Springfield in art and culture. Legacy Theatre plans to give back to the community by using these funds to secure and install equipment that will accommodate hearing impaired audience members, spreading enjoyment through theater.
So strap on your walking shoes and join the fun. Rally friends and start a team, join a team of interest, walk solo, or donate to support those already participating. Whatever method works best for you will still go towards assisting the hearing impaired in our community.
