2017 Illinois State Fair: Generations of Fun

One of the biggest events to hit Springfield each year is just around the corner.  The annual Illinois State Fair will kick off on August 10th and runs until the 20th at the Illinois Fairgrounds. The fairgrounds will be open from 7am to midnight throughout with the fair administration office open from 8am to 6pm.

Children (0 -12): free
Adults (13 - 59): $10
Seniors (60+): $3

Seasonal (Gate 6, Lot 18 infield): $40*

The Illinois State Fair is a family-friendly tradition that dates back to 1853 and offers several discount promotions.

Those competing or wishing to view the livestock will not want to miss the Parade of Champions on Saturday, August 12th beginning at 5pm in the Livestock Center. On the 15th, Grand Champions will be auctioned off at the Governor's Sale of Champions.

Thrill seekers get ready as this year’s fair will feature the Bullet Train roller coaster. The ride will be situated along turn two of the racetrack and those who purchase a Mega Pass will enjoy unlimited rides for all 11 fair days. Mega Passes are currently $70 and can be purchased by phone, mail, or in person at the Emmerson Building, or online at www.Illinois.gov/statefair.

Returning family-friendly attractions include the Agriculture Tent, Butter Cow, Conservation World, Ethnic Village, Farmer’s Little Helper, Kid’s Korner, and Happy Hollow.

 

Agriculture Tent

See interactive exhibits, activities, and educational presentations10am to 8pm daily. There will also be fresh, Illinois sweet corn, watermelon, and apple cider slushies available for purchase.

 

Butter Cow

Nothing says 1920s tradition like this unofficial fair icon. 500 pounds of unsalted butter are hand-sculpted over two days to create the life size figure. The unveiling of the Butter Cow will take place inside the Dairy Building.

 

Conservation World

Over 30 acres of green, rolling hills, grass, and trees are host to family fun and entertainment with daily attractions – including fishing clinics.

 

Ethnic Village

15 nationalities will be represented with two international beer booths and live music from noon to 9pm daily. Here you can sample Brazilian, Cajun Louisiana, Cuban, English, Philippine, French, German, Greek, Indian, Italian, Mediterranean, Mexican, Lithuanian, and Romanian food. 

 

Farmer’s Little Helpers

Daily free, hands-on, activities from 10am to 7pm teach fairgoers about Illinois agriculture showing the process from farm to table.

 

Kid’s Korner

Free, daily, outdoors activities and events with child and baby friendly features such as a changing/nursing area and face painting.

 

Happy Hollow

Competitions, exotic animal entertainment, and shows galore: play at Watershed Park, join in on color throws, experience a foam obstacle course, and witness the Ancient Athletics/St. Andrews Society Strongman of the Glen Competition.

 

Concerts
The Illinois State Fair 11-day showcase opens on Thursday, August 10th with a free (with paid admission to the fair) Foghat concert at the Grandstand. The lineup continues from there with the following:
