Take a step back in time during the 16th annual International Route 66 Mother Road Festival in downtown Springfield from September 22nd through the 24th. Admission is free, so head downtown to enjoy classic cars, music from the 50’s, 60’s, and 70’s, and food.
New this year is “My Ride My Story” where fans and participants get the chance to share their story along with photographs of their classic car or truck. Also new is the chance to re-live the festival, which is now available on DVD for purchase, as well as the Cabo Wabo Tequila Backyard where you can grab a CaboRita, play games and more.
Friday night will feature the Route 66 City Nights Cruise for Crime Stoppers. Watch or cruise with over 2,000 classic cars with $5 donations going to Crime Stoppers of Sangamon & Menard Counties and come back on Saturday for the Burnout Competition. During this weekend event, fans will also get the chance to take a closer look at Dick Levi’s private collection on display in the Monet of Cars while enjoying live entertainment on the Hot Rod Stage.
CASI certified national judging will take place with more than 40 classes of car awards. Online registration is available here or mail/fax a printable form. More downtown fun is available including the Poker Race ($5 to play), Famer’s Market, and State Capitol Photo Op – take advantage of the capitol backdrop while here in Springfield.
