Local First Springfield: Welcome

Local First Springfield and eighteen21 have joined forces to bring Springfield a guide to shopping local during the holidays – and always.

The 12 Days of Local campaign features more than 50 locally owned and operated businesses and organizations including Engrained Brewery & Restaurant, District 23, Downtown Springfield Inc., Pease’s at Bunn Gourmet, Custom Cup Coffee, Pampered Pet Center, Springfield Vintage, and Gem PR & Media to name a few.

 
Local First president, Val Yazell, and her team developed the campaign alongside eighteen21’s creators, Gemma and Chris Long, to not only celebrate so many local businesses here in Springfield but to remind shoppers to buy local during the holidays. “We wanted to highlight so many of our members’ businesses here in the city and to remind eighteen21 readers that the best place to spend your dollars in the run-up to the holidays is here in Springfield, right on your doorstep,” said Val. 


The campaign will launch on November 24th and feature a different category of businesses each day for 12 days. A 13th day will appear at the end of the year, between Christmas and New Year, focusing on getting the new year off to the right start.

 
Co-owner of eightern21, Chris, said the campaign had already received praise from organizations in the city focused on supporting local businesses including the office of the mayor, City of Springfield. “There’s definitely been a buzz surrounding the campaign. In our weeks of preparation we’ve had the opportunity to meet so many local business owners and hear their stories,” said Chris.

 
One of the purposes of the campaign is to raise funds for Local First so that the board can continue to improve its support for members. Members were charged a nominal fee to participate and Levi, Ray & Shoup Inc., demonstrated its support by sponsoring this initiative. Page sponsors include Gem PR & Media, Marine Bank, eighteen21, Kate Spencer Photography, Airport Authority, Bank of Springfield and The Corkscrew. All photography was donated by Kate Spencer Photography, as was everything created and published by eighteen21.
